5 tips to choose your next curly haircut

If you want to change your haircut on your curly hair and don’t know how to express it to your hairstylist, here are some tips to help you out. A discussion with your hairdresser is still necessary of course.

Here are 5 advices to choose your next haircut on your curly hair:

  • List what you like and don’t like about your current haircut

Do you have a lot of hair? Not that much hair? Do you have curls? or waves? or super tight curls?
It plays a huge role in the haircut that you’re gonna choose

It is important to identify what you like about your hair and what you don’t like.

Ask yourself the following questions:

Do you like the volume you have?

Do you like to have hair that frames your face? OR Do you prefer to have them out the way?

Would you like to keep the length or go shorter?

  • Show your desired length

It is THE most important point when discussing with your hairdresser especially with curly hair. We all know that what you see is not what you will always get especially after drying so make sure that she/he takes that into account.

Show the maximum length you would like to go for.

If you are looking for a dramatic change like going from short to long  PLEASE think about it and make sure to be prepared.

  • Identify your hair goal

What is your hair goal?

Remove all the damage ends even if it means shorter hair?

Are you looking to grow them out? etc.

It is really important to state it to your hairdresser.

  • What is your lifestyle?

It is also crucial to take into account your lifestyle, if you are busy all the time having a cut that needs a lot of styling and maintenance may not be the right option for you.

Short hair for example takes less time to wash and style BUT need to be styled more often and means visit your hairdresser every 6 to 8 weeks to keep it short and beautiful…

  • Find inspirational pictures and be realistic

The first thing most of us do is look up on instagram or pinterest for inspirations.

It can be hard to find someone with the same amount of hair and curl pattern… Also styling and the hair placing play a huge role in the pictures you will choose.

First identify what you really like in the picture:

Is it the styling ?  The way the curls look (shiny, juicy, frizzy), the volume,..

Is it the shape? When looking at a picture of curly hair cut you will see a shape, it can be a diamond, a round, a strong angle, a square, a rectangle?

Is it the face of the model? Don’t laugh, sometimes we like inspo pictures just because the model is beautiful…

Then try to select a picture with someone who has the same density as you and with almost the same curl pattern.

Do not forget that it is a conversation and your hairstylist may also have interesting ideas to share.

I hope this will help you be more intentional and help you express what you really want.
