How to deal with hard water in belgium?
Did you know that the quality of the water you use to wash your hair can sometimes be a bigger factor than the products you actually use?
Indeed water is the main element of your curly, wavy, frizzy hair routine.
Most of us love the undulation of our curls when our hair is wet but why? Because water hydrates and allows the definition and longevity of our curls…
The problem is that water is hard in most regions in Belgium. This means that the water is rich in minerals (like calcium, magnesium, chlorine, etc …)
A real disaster for all types of hair but specifically for curly, wavy, frizzy and tight curled hair. Who as we now know naturally ack hydration…
The minerals contained in hard water can:
- dry out your curls because of the accumulation of minerals on the surface of strand therefore limiting the penetration of water and products in your hair. This can cause stray hairs. It can also make you feel like your shampoo doesn’t foam correctly or that products don’t work on your hair type.
- make your skin or scalp more sensitive (itchiness, dandruff, etc…)
- leave white stains or marks on your taps or your shower partition. In the long term it can even reduce the pressure of your shower head
- modify or attenuate the vibrancy of colored or balayaged hair.
So how to deal with hard water?
Here are a few options:
- invest in a water softener. This is a costly solution but it will improve your water pipes longevity and your skin and curls health.
- Adding a water softener such as Helloklean between your faucet and shower head.
- Adding a clarifying product to your routine every 8 weeks (every month if you regularly go to the swimming pool). You can use a clarifying shampoo or a green clay mask (you’ll find loads of recipe on the Internet). Make sure to always follow up by an hydrating shampoo and an hydrating conditioner
